The Risen Dead

I know some of you are patiently waiting for The Risen Dead Pt. 4 but, unfortunately, some family difficulties means it probably won't be out until near the end of the year. Very sorry about that but it's hard to write when your world is in flux. I hope you'll forgive the delay.

Cancionero (A poem)

Come at dawn, beloved.
Come at dawn.

Lover, I want you.
Come at dawn of day.

Lover, I love you.
Come at the break of day.

Come at the break of day.
Don't bring anybody.

Come at the light of dawn.
Come, all alone.

EXCERPT: I told myself I should lock the house up tight, turn off all the lights and go to bed. It was dark and there was nothing I could do about my family’s disappearance now. In the morning I would walk to Acadia and find out what happened. But the more I tried to tell myself I should remain in the house, the more I felt I needed to go. Why wait? I knew the way well enough and yes, it would take a few hours to get there on foot, but I was too nervy to go to sleep. I’d just stay awake the whole night and then I’d be too tired to go anywhere the next morning, assuming what had gotten everybody hadn’t yet come for me. My mind made up, I grabbed a flashlight from a drawer in the kitchen and set out after locking the house up behind me. I turned off all the lights, too. I don’t know what made me do that but I just felt like it didn’t make sense to leave it all lit up. If there really were Risen Dead around it might attract them like moths to a flame.
Luckily, the moon was half-full and it was a cloudless night so I didn’t need to turn the flashlight on. In about ten minutes, I reached the outer gate to our property, pushed it open and walked through. I latched it behind me, wondering if I would ever pass that way again. The thought made another sob catch in my throat but I squared my shoulders and started off down the road. I was letting my imagination get the best of me. I had no proof anything had happened to my family. A sense of foreboding wasn’t a fact, I told myself resolutely as I set out. But it was a fact that nobody had answered their phone, not even the sheriff or the emergency responders.
There were no streetlights out our way since we were so far from town but, like I said, the moon and the stars lit up the night well enough so I kept the flashlight off to save the batteries. The chirping of crickets and my own footsteps were the only sounds but that didn’t disturb me none since it wasn’t unusual. Noises would have been unusual. It felt eerie being on the road like this all by myself but this wasn’t someplace like New York City or D.C. where, like Pa always said, one had to fear for one’s life just going to the supermarket.
I trudged on through the dark silence trying to keep my spirits up by murmuring little prayers. Dear God, please let my family be alright. Please let me find them. Please, please, dear God. Like that.

FREE 30th and 31st May! Anything for Him #1

FREE FOR TWO DAYS!

BLURB: Dennis Denton is a high–powered lobbyist in Washington, D.C. who owes much of his success to his beautiful wife, whose expertise in the bedroom is unparalleled. But there’s an important deal in the making and Mrs. Denton won’t be in the city to provide her usual services. It’s up to their gorgeous, adoptive daughter, Alana, to help out and she’s thrilled to do it. Follow Alana on her wild romp through the halls of the nation's power centers.

EXCERPT: “Alana.” My mother cleared her throat and looked uncertain for a minute. “You know I’m going away in the morning for about three months, right?”I nodded. Of course I knew. She’d been packed since yesterday and her bags were waiting by the door because that was how organized she was.“Well, tomorrow, your dad has a very important dinner with one of the Senate’s most senior congressmen.” She stopped and peered at me.I stared back, wondering where this was going. I didn’t understand why she was telling me this. It wasn’t news. I already knew that every now and then Dad hosts small, very important, dinners to try to get politicians and top government bureaucrats to see things the way his clients in the petroleum industry want them to be seen. That wasn’t a secret. He and Mom would dress up to the nines and sweep out of the house, looking and smelling like a million dollars. But I’d know it wasn’t an ordinary cocktail or dinner party they were going to because Mom always came out of the bedroom wearing a coat even in summer. I hadn’t caught on that she was deliberately trying to hide what she was wearing until one day years ago when I’d passed at the same moment as Daddy came out the door. He’d closed it back quickly when she yelled at him but I’d already seen the strappy, cleavage–bearing, dress she was wearing. I have no idea who designed that dress but I knew for sure it wasn’t the same person who designed the kinds of outfits she wore to Presidential Inaugurations, for example. A few days after that when I was home alone I checked out her closet and found a whole section of wildly revealing dresses with thigh–high slits or necklines that plunged down to her navel in the front or down to the top of her butt–crack in the back. Since I’d never seen her in them, I figured those were the dresses she was wearing when she emerged from her room in a coat. I’d snapped photos with my iPod and, the next time she came out in a coat, I waited about ten minutes after the front door had closed before going into their room. I checked the dresses that were still there against my photos. A shimmery purple number with a deep cowl–neck and one of the high slits was missing. Busted! The dresses she wore to regular events were fabulous but the ones she wore to the special dinners were straight up trampy. Of course, I’d never said anything to reveal my discovery.“Since I’m not going to be here, I’d like you to go with Dennis instead.”I dragged my thoughts back to the present and blinked at her. That was it? That was the big announcement?“Okay, sure.” I jumped to my feet. “No problem.”Daddy looked at me intently. “Your mother’s not finished.”I sank back down and the pleated skirt I was wearing flew up high on my thighs. Daddy’s gaze dropped down to my legs and stayed there which sent a wave of heat throbbing through me. If I moved just a little I could give him a good view but Mom was giving me a hard look. I pulled my skirt back down.“Pay attention, Alana. It’s not just any old dinner.”I sighed. I might not be an Honor Roll student but I’d already figured that much out. “I know, Mom. I get it. Daddy needs to make a good impression.”“Not just, Daddy. You, too. You, most of all.”

FREE 26 AND 27TH ON AMAZON!

FREE APRIL 26 AND 27 ON AMAZON!

EXCERPT:
It was almost midnight by the time Terrence Nelson turned his Honda Accord into the driveway of the house he shared with his college student tenant, Chanci. He was late. Again. It was happening more and more often these days and he knew why. It didn’t have anything to do with the fact that he’d been at an estate auction in Virginia for most of the day or that he’d had a lot to do ensuring he had all the proper paperwork from the auction house. No, it had nothing to do with any of that. He just hated being home with Chanci nowadays, hated her petulant moods, hated the way she wouldn’t listen to anything he told her.
Most of all he hated the way she made him feel as she pranced around the house wearing those tight short–shorts of which she appeared to have an endless supply. Terrence had decided to take in a boarder earlier in the year when it became apparent that the economy had worsened to the point that much fewer people were buying antiques. Truth was, if things got much worse he might even have to close his shop but, at least, having a tenant helped. Of course, he was finding it hard to resist coming over all paternal and asking the pretty girl to tone down her clothing. Did young girls nowadays really have to show so much skin? But, whenever he mentioned it, it caused a row.
“I can move out tomorrow,” she’d shout. “I’ll go, and you’ll never see me again.” And Terrence always backed down because, after all, he liked having her around. It made him feel less lonely.
Chanci’s sea–green eyes and ash–blond hair reminded him so much of his dead wife that he often caught himself staring at the girl, lost in happy memories. But, sometimes, when he saw Chanci in her ‘booty shorts,’ as she called them, wearing one of her tiny tight t–shirts, he felt like doing a lot more than staring. His cock would come to life in his pants reminding him that he’d only gotten laid three times in the last two years. Those were inappropriate thoughts for a landlord to be having about his tenant, very inappropriate. He knew that. He knew that wanting to see Chanci naked, wanting to suck her nipples, and finger that sweet pussy he sometimes caught a glimpse of when she was in the pool, all of those things were wrong. Chanci was almost thirty years younger than him.
He suspected that the arguments and tension in the house recently weren’t all Chanci’s fault or the fault of her wardrobe. No, it could be that he was to blame, too, because he was having sinful thoughts about the twenty year–old, sexy–as–hell young lady
